The Heart of Ohio Quilters Guild (HOQG) offers a variety of activities for our guild members. Feel free to contact the committee chairperson about any of the activities for more information.
Monthly Board Meetings
The monthly board meetings are where the guild’s leadership meets to discuss and complete guild business. Meetings are held via ZOOM, the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. All guild members are welcome to attend board meetings. email president@heartofohioquilters.com for login credentials and meeting agenda information.
Monthly Membership Meeting
Membership meetings usually consist of announcements, guild business discussions, welcoming of new members, show and tell, and a quilting-related program led by a speaker. Meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. (except for November, the guild meets the second Tuesday) at St. Leonard’s Catholic Church in Heath, which is located at 57 Dorsey Mill Road – Heath, OH 43056.membership@heartofohioquilters.com
Banquet
Each year on or about National Quilting Day, the third Saturday of March, HOQG celebrates National Quilting Day by having a banquet that includes a meal and a speaker presentation. banquet@heartofohioquilters.com
Programs
After the guild’s business meeting, there is a program each month. Programs are invited speakers who share their experiences and knowledge of quilting and quilting related topics. programs@heartofohioquilters.com
Retreats
Currently, HOQG invites members to participate in any of three retreats. The winter retreat is held in February each year. The spring “No Frills” retreat is held in May and the “Quilt Till You Wilt,” summer retreat is held in July. Road Trips
It’s always fun to see what else is going on in the world of quilting! Road trips are organized travel opportunities for guild members to visit fabric shops, quilt shows, shop hops or attend lectures, trunk shows, and the like.vp@heartofohioquilters.com
Workshops
Quilt instructors are scheduled several times throughout the year to present half or whole day specialized workshops. The workshop instruction concentrates on a certain pattern, design or technique. These teachers are generally those that have presented at the guild meetings. programs@heartofohioquilters.com
Challenge
For one of its yearly activities, HOQG has a membership quilting challenge. The chairperson decides the challenge: Quilt block(s), technique, color, fabric, theme, etc. The committee chair sets the rules early in the year to allow members several months to complete their individual projects. The finished challenge quilts are then displayed at a monthly program (or at the biennial HOQG sponsored quilt show) and members can vote for their favorites. It is interesting to see the different interpretations of the rules. All members are encouraged to participate and winners are presented a prize for their hard work.

Service Projects
HOQG members decided to reach out to people who were experiencing a life-altering situation with a lap or throw quilt. While healing takes place, quilts often provide comfort and warmth. We could notdo this without the support of our caring guild members.Our service project groups are:

We have also donated quilts to other organizations our members have shown interest in such as: Fostering Further, Honor Flight, My Very Own Blanket, Licking Memorial Hospital, and Nationwide Children’s Hospital among others.
Friendship Groups
Small groups of quilters who like to meet outside of guild meetings for quilt-related activities are known as friendships groups. Friendship groups are a great way to make new friends, share ideas, and learn new techniques. Friendship groups are often formed around a common interest or geographical location. They can either be“open” and anyone can join, or“closed” with members added as meeting space allows. Goodwill Angel
Members inform the Goodwill Angel about any illness, life-changing events, deaths, etc. of any other members. The Goodwill Angel sends cards to those members or family members to express concern, condolences, or another message. goodwill@heartofohioquilters.com
Newsletter
The Thread Connection is published monthly. Newsletters are emailed electronically to all members. Deadlines for submissions are the first Friday of the month and can be submitted to newsletter@heartofohioquilters.com.
Quilt Fabric and Notion Sale
This public event, held once a year, is a great opportunity to buy quality fabric, notions and quilting supplies. Sale items are donated by HOQG members, and proceeds are used to fund guild activities throughout the year.

We’ve always put on quilt shows. In 2019, the HOQG held our biennial quilt show, “Make New Quilts, but Keep the Old”. Members exhibited their quilts and participants at the show had an opportunity to vote on their favorite quilts. Every other year, the guild votes on and supports a Featured Artist. The 2019 show’s Featured Artist was Carol Arbaugh.
Then COVID. We wondered if we’d be able to gather for in-person meetings. But we kept on quilting, at home, over ZOOM, in very small groups. No quilt show in 2021, still COVID.
After more than two years, we couldn’t wait any longer, and planned the Roundabout Quilt Show in 2022. We had already selected Clarita Denius as our Featured Artist for 2021, so we asked her to gather her favorite works. The steps of the alter became a stage for her masterpieces. We learned a new way to display quilts in an amazing church, we met new quilting friends there, too! We believe it was perfect, and we’re not biased. Pun intended.
And now were back to Bryn Du Mansion, November 3rd and November 4th, in Granville. We can’t wait to show you what’ve been up to!
