ORANGE, TX – Lamar State College Orange hosted another record-breaking commencement on Friday, May 10 with 438 certificates and degrees awarded to 349 graduates. This represents an impressive 46% increase in the number of graduates over last year’s Spring commencement in May of 2023. The Spring class of 2024 carried an average GPA of 3.36 with 70% reporting as first-generation college graduates.
"Commencement holds a special place in my heart at Lamar State College Orange," remarked President Thomas Johnson. "Witnessing the accomplishments of our students fills me with immense pride. I am deeply grateful to be part of such a significant milestone in their journey."
70% of our graduates are pioneers in their families, being the first to pursue higher education. LSCO celebrates this as a testament to our commitment to being a place where hope meets opportunity. We understand the transformative power of a college certificate or degree, not just for the individual student, but for future generations to follow.
“The hard work and dedication from each student that walked the stage is inspiring,” said Dr. Wendy Elmore, Provost and Executive Vice President. “Many of our students work a full-time job along with attending college. Every student can be proud of the statement that a certificate or degree from Lamar State College Orange says about them.”
Graduates this semester come from all over the state of Texas & Louisiana with 68% living in Orange County, 8% from Parishes in Louisiana, and 7% each in Jefferson, Jasper and Hardin Counties. 73% are graduating with a technical certificate or degree in a craft, skill or trade while 27% are receiving an academic certificate or degree.
