  I used to work on Charing Cross Road, so I avoided this place like the plague. Full of idiots and overpriced instruments.

  Rockers has moved to the top floor of Hank's, which used to be Music Ground.

  It's still sh*te.

  Went in there last week, the guy didn't even look up and acknowledge there was a customer in the shop when I walked in. None of their guitars particularly interest me either... they have Jacksons and Ibanezes but none of the cool models. There was an old Ibanez ST200 from the early 80s in there, which I played and thought was nice, but the guy said they wanted £1200 for it... strikes me as enormously overpriced. Wunjo's is still the best shop on the street by a mile.

  Absolutely. Wunjo have great service, sensible prices (with scope for haggling) and plenty of interesting second hand stock.

  I used to forget about Wunjo when it was tucked away round the corner :-D they are the more pleasant of the Denmark Street mob. If I ever go down there its usually for the bookshops :-)

  I went to Chappells for the first time yesterday, didnt even know it existed until recently. Fine if you like, erm, Yamaha's, not much cop for anything else.

  Are 'All bang and strummit' still there, or just around there?

  I bought my first electric guitar there which was a White Ibanez Roadstar II with 3 sc for £240 in 1986 I think. I had decided I wanted to learn the electric at school. I asked them to play it for me and it sounded really good to me not that I knew anything.

  I then traded it in there for a Charvel Model 1 or 2 I think which was a single humbucker as I was in to shred then and they had just come out and Deff Lepard were using Jackson's.

  I watched Mark King & Joan Armatrading do their handprints outside Rose Morris back in the early 90s. They held a charity auction in the street outside and I 'won' a nice Washburn electro acoustic. Was anyone else there?

  I find Notom always worth a visit and love the demo facility at the MXR place just over the road (forget the name).

  Agree the rest of it is crap, mind you I think it has been for a very long time now and cross rail has given it the kick it deserved

  I was at university just around the corner from there. It didn't last too long. Last I saw of Jon Gold he was selling insurance and doing karaoke in the evening, but that was a good 15-20 years ago. He was very tolerant of people dropping in for chats. Possibly he and his partner were too nice to be in the business.

  I went to a charity auction at Denmark St in the early nineties. Got a DiMarzio Very Metal pedal.

  I avoid Hanks like the plague, they're very dismissive, massively overpriced and everything needs a set up.
  I'm a big fan of Wunjo and Regents Sound, particularly for service.

  I'll occasionally go into Angels if I've got tonnes of cash, but they rarely have anything I want or can afford.

  I'm not sure I've ever bought anything from Denmark St. Maybe strings. I like a wander round as much as the next guy but even the beloved Wunjo is rubbish compared with Guitar Village or Coda

  It's gone now, they razed it as well to build a Crossrail station and some flats.
